Become a member of United Way

Voting Members of United Way are essential to the important work that we make possible in communities across Peel, Toronto and York Region. For us to be able to tackle poverty and related local issues, we rely on Members to approve the fundamental governance structure of United Way Greater Toronto (UWGT) by participating in our Annual General Meeting. At the AGM, Members vote on the appointment of Trustees, auditors, and other special business, receive our annual audited financial statements, and hear reports on our work in the community.

Show your local love for community by becoming a Member, and you’ll be helping to make critical social issues like poverty.

What is Membership?

Both individuals and organizations* are eligible to become Members, with similar rights for both. You can become a member if you meet the Membership qualifications (one of the following: UWGT donor; UWGT volunteer; or you live or work in Peel, Toronto or York Region). Membership is for one year, based on our fiscal year of April 1 to March 31.

The application deadline was March 1, 2024 and the application period is now closed for the April 2024 to March 2025 membership term.

Applications received prior to the closing will be submitted to the Board for approval at the end of March and we will notify members once approved.

Please check back in the fall for information on next year’s application.

Our UWGT Membership Rights and Responsibilities contains more information about Membership. If you need additional information, please email

* Organizations will need to identify a primary Membership contact. Typically, this is someone who has official signing authority or who is authorized to vote on behalf of the organization.
