About

Almost two decades ago, United Way Greater Toronto saw the need to ensure local access to vital services and community space and created our first Community Hub. Today, a full nine Community Hubs have opened their doors, welcoming over 5.8 million visitors across 239,000 sq.ft. of community hub space across the GTA.

They are a “one-stop shop”, that make it easy for our neighbours in historically underserved communities to access after-school programs, social clubs, community kitchens, settlement supports, employment programs, legal services, and so much more.

Hubs also bring residents together through strengths-based to develop local solutions to the issues facing their neighbourhood, promoting civic engagement and mobilizing around local opportunities.

Why Community Hubs?

For communities and neighbourhoods: They are a space and place for resident belonging and neighbourhood-led responses to local needs and opportunities. Residents are involved in decision making and service planning, giving them influence over supports provided and services offered. Hubs are an anchor in communities facing rising inequalities, neighbourhood change and displacement.

For Agencies: Hubs provide a secured  and reliable space to operate and deliver services in their communities. They offer synergies and coordination between service providers maximizing impact a reducing barriers to service delivery in communities and neighbourhoods across the GTA.

As part of our Neighbourhood Solutions Strategy and Community Real Estate Initiative, United Way Greater Toronto is:

  • Strengthening the tenure of existing Hubs so that they will be able to serve their communities for generations to come
  • Expanding to bring this successful model to 10 more neighbourhoods across the GTA

Our hubs under development:

Watch this space: We’re hard at work to realize new Community Hubs in these neighbourhoods where need, growth and opportunity align:

  • Parkdale: Together with the City of Toronto, we’re bringing protected services and community space to this changing neighbourhood, opening 2028.
  • Unionville: We’re supporting convening partners, in collaboration with the Region of York, to create a Hub, set to open in late 2026.
  • Glenforest: A new youth Hub is being developed by the City of Mississauga and United Way will be there with programming support and coordination when it opens in by early 2028.
