Group of volunteers running a United Way employee campaign

Get to know us

We believe that our greatest strength is our ability to bring people together, from all walks of life, to build a better region. This is supported by our well-earned reputation for trust, transparency and integrity. Of course, we wouldn’t be who we are without each one of us—employees and volunteers alike—living and breathing a set of common core values. We make it a priority to recognize employees who exemplify these values, and we’re often recognized for upholding them as an organization: we’re proud to be among MediaCorp Canada’s GTA Top 100 Employers again this year!

Our core values

At United Way, our mission is to meet urgent human needs and improve social conditions by mobilizing the community's volunteer and financial resources in a common cause of caring. Here are the core values that guide everything we do:

  • Community
  • Integrity and Accountability
  • Diversity and Inclusiveness
  • Excellence and Innovation
  • Service

Our culture

We aspire to build an adaptable, high-performance culture that reflects our values and commitment to community. We have identified four major behaviours to guide our work every day.

Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace that reflects the diverse community we serve. We embrace different abilities, perspectives and experiences, and we promote equity—welcoming, celebrating and valuing the contributions of all. (Read our internal 2018 Diversity and Inclusion Progress Report for more information).

UWGT participates as a member in York Region's Municipal Diversity and Inclusion Group which provides a forum for local municipalities and key mainstream organizations to engage in collaborative planning, discuss common needs, and identify possible tools and best practices related to accessibility, diversity and inclusion. In 2018, UWGT became a signatory to York Region's Diversity and Inclusion Charter.
