What exactly is Text To Give?

Text To Give is a way using text messaging to make a predefined donation ($5, $10, $15, $20, $25) through a keyword and shortcode to a charity. Instead of using a credit card the keyword and shortcode add the defined dollar amount to your wireless bill. 

Text to Give programs are managed by the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada on behalf of charities and wireless service providers. 100% of your donation goes to United Way Toronto & York Region.

When I make a donation will data/text messaging charges apply?

Making a donation using the keyword and shortcode will not add a charge to your data/text messaging plan. It is a free service. Viewing online content may incur data charges at your network’s standard rate.

Can a Text To Give donation be attributed to my United Way workplace campaign?

No, a Text To Give donation cannot be attributed to a donor’s United Way workplace campaign because donations are managed by the Mobile Giving Foundation and United Way receives minimal information on the donation.

If I opt-in to further communication how will my information be used?

United Way Greater Toronto will use that information to send future communications like our Community Matters e-newsletter and information about our community events. 

How do I get a tax receipt for my Text To Give Donation?

After making a Text To Give donation you will receive a follow up text with a link to the MGFC site where you can download your receipt. Here is a url you can use to get your receipt http://www.mobilegiving.ca/tax-receipt/

As the processor of the donation the CRA requires the MGFC to issue tax receipts. United Way Toronto & York Region cannot provide you with a tax receipt.

How do I get a refund if I made a donation by mistake or someone made one using my device without my knowledge?

United Way Greater Toronto cannot provide a refund directly to you as we do not process the donation. You can follow two ways of having the donation removed from your wireless service provider statement:

  • Contact their wireless service provider and ask for the donation to be cancelled/refunded by their provider
  • Contact the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada at support@mobilegiving.ca or by calling 1-855-643-6431

Which wireless operators are currently supporting Mobile Giving Foundation Canada programs?

Currently, this service is available through the following wireless operators: Bell, Eastlink, Fido, Koodo Mobile, MTS, Rogers, Solo Mobile, TELUS, Videotron, Virgin Mobile, and WIND Mobile.
