Jaqui Parchment

I’m a first generation Canadian and came here with my parents from Jamaica when I was 14. When my parents came to Canada, they were not able to find jobs in their chosen professional field. We lost my father last year, and when I was going through his papers, I found all the resumés and reference letters he prepared to try to find a job. It made me so sad to be reminded of what Canada missed out on by not utilizing his skills to the fullest. One of the ways I try to help is by volunteering with CultureLink, a United Way agency that helps new Canadians integrate into their communities. I want everyone who calls Toronto home to have the tools at their disposal to thrive and achieve success. That’s what inspires me to give.
