Donor Profile

George Fierheller

“The purpose of life is service to others.” George Fierheller embodied this important message he shared in his book, I Gave at the Office. As a true community champion and an inspiring philanthropist, he touched many corners of our community as a donor, a volunteer and an advisor to United Way. He was chair of United Way campaigns in Ottawa (1971), Vancouver (1981) and Toronto (1991). He served as Chair of the Board of United Way Greater Toronto in 1987 and was involved with the Major Individual Giving Cabinet for almost two decades. In 1998, he received the highest honour from United Way Centraide Canada: the André Mailhot Award. As a founding member of United Way’s endowment, The Tomorrow Fund™, George believed in giving everyone a fair chance at a good life. His legacy has deep roots in our community and his big heart will be missed.
